Coming In for Your First Appointment
When you visit Dentistry by Design seeking treatment for your snoring or sleep apnea, we want to ensure you that we can provide you with an effective, comfortable solution. Many of our patients who come in for their consultation with Dr. Robinette have already been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have been using a CPAP mask.
Some patients report that CPAP is difficult to use, feels claustrophobic, and makes loud noises throughout the night, which is why they come to us for an alternative. When you meet with Dr. Robinette, you’ll be able to explain your problems with CPAP and learn about our solutions.
Discussing Your Sleep Disorder
Dr. Robinette will generally ask a series of questions about you and your condition to ensure he understands all aspects of it. He’ll find out what all your symptoms are, see if you have any concerns about your sleep disorder, and figure out what treatment option is right for you.
An optimal alternative to CPAP that we offer is an oral appliance. This small, custom-made mouthguard offers a more comfortable and convenient solution for you. During your consultation, Dr. Robinette will explain how it works and help you decide if you’d like to move forward with treatment.
He will provide you with an estimated cost of the overall treatment and offer financing options available to you. Once you decide that an oral appliance is the best method of treatment for your snoring and sleep apnea, Dr. Robinette will proceed with your treatment process.
Questions to Ask Dr. Robinette
It’s always important to ask questions or mention any concerns you have at your consultation, prior to beginning treatment. This will make both yourself and our team feel comfortable and confident in providing you with the care you need.
Be prepared before your appointment and ask specific questions. Some questions may include:
- Why are oral appliances preferred over CPAP?
- Will your treatment help me feel more energized?
- How much will treatment be?
- Will I stop snoring after using an oral appliance?
- Will my insurance cover oral appliance therapy?
Beginning Your Treatment Process
After your sleep consultation is finished at Dentistry by Design, Dr. Robinette can begin planning out your treatment. He’ll need to take digital x-rays and impressions of your mouth so he can design an oral appliance that fits precisely and comfortably.
Once your oral device is made, you’ll return to our office to ensure it fits. Within just a few days, you and your sleep partner will be able to sleep soundly through the night without any interruptions.
